Patrick Mahomes and Jimmy Garoppolo to fight it out for the Super Bowl MVP award
by Tom Phillips, https://www.facebook.com/JournoTom/The classic cliche in the NFL features in this year’s Super Bowl: an unstoppable force against an impenetrable object.
The offensive Kansas City Chiefs are slight favourites at 3/4 to lift the Lombardi Trophy but have the defensive San Francisco 49ers - who are 21/20 with The Pools- in the way.
The contest is being held at the Hard Rock Stadium - home of the Miami Dolphins - which will be its seventh Super Bowl.
The AFC Champions quarterback Patrick Mahomes is tipped as the favourite to win the MVP award as he is set to lead the Chiefs' pacey offence. And he will be in good company if he does - in the last 10 years, seven Super Bowl MVP winners are quarterbacks.
The 24-year-old already boasts last year’s MVP award in the league but is looking to join an exclusive club alongside Ben Roethlisberger and Tom Brady as the only quarterbacks to hoist a Lombardi Trophy before their 25th birthday.
Mahomes is set to be the fifth-youngest quarterback to start in the Super Bowl too.
He will face tough competition however, including his NFC counterpart Jimmy Garoppolo and statistically it is very hard to separate them.
Garoppolo boasts more touchdowns than Mahomes (27-26) but less pass yards (3,978-4,031) so all eyes will be on who will be the most influential when called upon.
