5 things we spotted from Bruno Fernandes' first Man Utd training session
by Mark Jones, https://www.mirror.co.uk/authors/mark-jones/We've all been there.
Your first day at a new job can often be a daunting one, as you meet your new workmates and generally do your best to impress.
The same rule applies in whatever profession you're in, even if your job is the be the £68.7million bright new hope for Manchester United.
Bruno Fernandes is that man, and after the Portuguese attacking midfielder put the finishing touches to his move from Sporting Lisbon on Thursday, he trained with his teammates for the first time at Carrington on Friday morning ahead of a potential debut at home to Wolves on Saturday evening.
The cameras were there to capture his every move, and here's what we spotted from the session.
1. Commanding the attention
When Fernandes finally signed on the dotted line at United he did so after a fairly lengthy transfer saga, and so it is safe to assume that the club's players have been aware of his abilities for quite some time.
Like the fans, they might even have been YouTubing his best bits for the last few days.
If they had, then the senior stars will no doubt be eager to play with the new man as soon as possible, and it was Anthony Martial who the cameras spotted keeping a close eye on the skills of his latest teammate.
Like what you see, Anthony?
2. Bruno's number is up
So it turned out that Kohler fooled us all.
The welcome video from United's sponsors that was circulating shortly after Fernandes completed his move on Thursday clearly showed a number 2 on the back of what was supposedly 'his' shirt.
That led to fans speculating that he would be taking several different squad numbers, all with a 2 in them, only for the new man to run out at training sporting Ashley Young's old No.18 on his front.
United later confirmed that will be his squad number, and they are sure to shift plenty of shirts with his name on.
3. How's your touch?
The new man has been signed to provide craft and creativity to the United midfield, and judging by his touch at training he certainly seems to have a lot of that.
Fernandes arrives at Old Trafford with fans' hopes automatically set at sky high, as they hope that he can help introduce a more exciting brand of football during what has often been a fairly turgid period of time under Solskjaer.
The new man will be strutting his stuff at Old Trafford soon enough.
4. Leading the way
It was interesting to see that Solskjaer mentioned Fernandes' leadership in his first words following the signing of the new man on Thursday, and he was certainly leading the pack at one point in training.
The fact that the club had to turn to the recently signed Harry Maguire in the search for a new club captain following Young's departure earlier this month tells you all you need to know about the leadership void in the current squad, meaning that it isn't just Fernandes' ability on the ball which will be crucial.
5. That winning feeling
Talk about starting as you mean to go on...
Fernandes was on the winning side in a small-sided game alongside Fred, Diogo Dalot and Andreas Pereira as he made new friends at Carrington.
Can this be a sign of things to come for him?
