Hibs ace Kamberi heading to Rangers for medical in potential three-way deal that involves Docherty and McNulty

FLORIAN KAMBERI is on his way to Rangers for a medical - but Hibs have yet to agree to a deal let him leave on loan.

Gers want the Swiss striker as cover for crocked Jermain Defoe and Hibs have allowed him to go through his health checks in advance of an agreement.

Rather than wait until late tonight before having his medical, it will allow the potential deal to go through as soon as the clubs can reach agreement.

Hibs want to free up the wages to bring in Marc McNulty from Sunderland.

Also, part of the deal could involve a Rangers player going in the opposite direction along the M8.

Easter Road boss Jack Ross would like to get Greg Docherty in to bolster his midfield but SunSport understands the player is not yet sold on the move.

Peterborough have also been keen to land Docherty but Rangers have not given any encouragement to the English League One side.

So another Gers star could be used as makeweight in the complicated deal.

Kamberi, 24, has scored 28 goals in 79 appearances in all competitions for the Hibees since joining the side in 2018.

And Rangers boss Steven Gerrard will hope he can fill the void until Defoe is able to return.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard confirmed today that the Light Blues were searching for a new striker ahead of tonight's deadline.

But the gaffer insisted they won't be signing anyone for the sake of it.

He said: "We will look to add a striker. Until I get a signature there is nothing to say except we are doing everything we can.

"At the moment we have one recognised number nine and we have a lot of fixtures in the next few weeks.

"One thing I will not do is bring someone in for the sake of it.

"I will only do it if they are one of our targets who I believe will help us in the short and long-term."
