Breakout 3-year-old No Parole stretches out in Premier Night Prince
by Mary SchweitzerTrainer Tom Amoss has entered his promising 3-year-old colt No Parole in the $100,000 Louisiana Premier Night Prince Stakes on Feb. 8 at Delta Downs.
In addition to marking No Parole's stakes debut, the one-mile contest for Louisiana-bred colts and geldings will be the colt's first time racing beyond six furlongs and around two turns.
No Parole is owned by Maggi Moss, who purchased the son of Violence for $75,000 at the 2018 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. No Parole made his racing debut Dec. 15 at Fair Grounds, where defeated fellow state-breds by 14 1/4 lengths. His second start came against winners on Jan. 11, and the winning margin was still a sizable 13 ¼ lengths.
Ever the pragmatist, Amoss is “being careful about letting my mind drift” regarding what the future may hold for the talented colt.
“It’s funny,” Amoss told Horse Racing Nation earlier this week. “When horses come around and run the kind of races that get you dreaming or get you thinking about what’s to come, if you train for any length of time — and I’m not talking about myself; I think I speak for everybody — you tend to temper everything. It’s a business of disappointment.”
No Parole will face six rivals in the Prince, which scheduled as the third race on the card. Post time is 7:08 ET.
The race card will conclude with the 16th running of the $100,000 Louisiana Premier Night Matron Stakes, a five-furlong dash for older fillies and mares. Headlining that contest is Minit to Stardom, winner of the 2019 Honorable Miss (G2) at Saratoga. The 5-year-old mare by Star Guitar will face nine rivals the race.
One race before that, Steve Asmussen-trained Shang, who won the 2019 Prince, is among the ones to beat in the $150,000 Louisiana Premier Night Championship. He'll face seven rivals in the 1 1/16-mile feature for older horses.
