On Thursday, the government confirmed that 16 people are known to have had negative tests for the deadly virus in Scotland.

It has now been confirmed that the figure remains the same as of Friday.

The number of people being tested for the illness across the UK has risen from 161 to 177 according to the Department of Health.

Two members of the same family have tested positive for coronavirus in what is the first confirmed cases in the UK.

The other 175 patients have tested negative for disease.

Despite the UK-wide rise in the number of people being tested for the illness, the Scottish Government has said that the risk to the public is low.

A spokesperson for the government added: “The government is monitoring the situation closely and will continue to work with the World Health Organisation (WHO) and international community.”

The disease, which originated in Wuhan, China, has killed more than 210 people and infected at least 9,000.

From the same family of viruses as SARS, the new coronavirus has spread to over 20 countries, including the USA, Canada, France, South Korea, Japan and Germany.
