France international Olivier Giroud is now on the verge of making a move to Tottenham after Chelsea and Spurs reportedly agreed a deal over the possible transfer.

Things have not been rosy this season for Tottenham in the Premier League most especially when their captain and star striker Harry Kane got injured.

When Jose Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham, he was linked with Zlatan Ibrahimovic as a cover up for Harry Kane, but the Portuguese rejected the move.

Mourinho claimed then that he does not need any striker because he has Harry Kane not knowing that the Englishman will get injured.

And now, the former Chelsea and Manchester United manager is looking for a sharp striker who can replace Harry Kane.

But according to the report on 90min, Chelsea, on the other hand, are still waiting if they can get the signing of Napoli forward Dries Mertens before they can allow Giroud leave.

There are reports linking the ex-Arsenal striker to Inter Milan where he would have the chance to reunite with former manager Antonio Conte.

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has been using Tammy Abraham up front this season in all competitions.

Chelsea's first bid for Dries Mertens was rejected by Napoli, but the Blues are still confident that they can land their target before the transfer window closes.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Chelsea are reportedly planning to lure Napoli forward Dries Mertens to the Stamford Bridge before the winter transfer window closes.

The 32-year-old Belgian has scored nine goals and two assists in 22 appearances across competitions this campaign.

His current deal with the Serie A giants expires at the end of this season and the Blues are hoping they can bring him to the Premier League for the remainder of the season.

Mertens will be 33 in May but he remains one of the best attackers in the world with double figures in Serie A in the last three seasons.

The Belgian was responsible for 62 goals in the last three league campaigns and his experience would count for the Blues.
