WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Harley Quinn Season 1, streaming now on DC Universe.

The Harley Quinn TV series has offered a polarizing take on its titular antihero. On one hand, the show has centered around her admirable ambition to be more than Joker's ex-girlfriend, and free herself from her past with the abusive villain with a little help from her friends. However, her selfish motives to get into the Legion of Doom and show up the Clown Prince of Crime suggest that she's not entirely over him either.

But after Harley fights to get into the Legion, it becomes clear that Harley turned on the villainous friends who supported her to keep her spot in DC's supervillain club,

Lex Luthor initially wanted Poison Ivy to join in the Legion after Harley's crew beat her new archnemesis, Aquaman. Harley still has a shot but the rest of her gang -- King Shark, Clayface and the foul-mouthed Dr. Psycho -- are all treated like ordinary henchmen. The Legion banishes them to the lower offices which is for average goons and thugs. This allows Bane to bully and push them around, roping the squad into a personal vendetta he has against a barista who keeps spelling his name "Bang!" on a cup -- a prank Joker set up.

The crew keeps contacting Harley to help them out, but she's too caught up in trying to impress the Legion. Things come to a head when Bane has King Shark go into the cafe with a bomb but instead of waiting for him to come out, Bane sets it off and King Shark almost dies. To make it worse, Todd the barista doesn't work on the day they picked. So it's all for nothing and luckily, King Shark escapes with just a severed fin. As everyone comforts him in the hospital later, Ivy reminds Harley that she also ditched an eco-terror mission of her own.

But as they comfort each other, Harley's whereabouts and the reason she's been ducking them is broadcast on the news -- she's been on a creative brainstorm-turned-date with Joker. She was duped into thinking he changed and after Batman intervened, Joker took her on his chopper only to boot her off so he could buy time to escape. Harley evaded Batman and swam away to safety. But as she enters the hospital room, unaware what her friends went through without her, her knack for lying rears its ugly head once more.

She pretends she was busy with Legion duty but quickly realizes that her true whereabouts have been revealed by the news. All of her friends are pissed off and you get the sense irreparable damage has been done. They've had her back through thick and thin, risking their minds to free her sanity during her mental breakdown. These criminals risked life and limb to trust and look out for each other and formed a tight-knit group. After Harley's betrayal and return to her old habits, she'll have to do a lot to win back the crew's trust, especially as King Shark nearly died because she ignored them.

To make it worse, Ivy storms off angrily to go on the mission by herself which unfortunately ends up being a trap. She's gassed and kidnapped by a mysterious enemy. Because of Harley's actions, Ivy is poised to suffer big time, and Harley may have to save Ivy before she wins back her trust.
