Quasar's Retroactive Initiation Into the Avengers

Today, I look at the cute way that Quasar's membership in the Avengers was handled retroactively.
In Avengers #302 (by Ralph Macchio, Rich Buckler and Tom Palmer), the Avengers are in way outer space when the Super-Nova comes to wreak havoc on Earth.
Quasar (whose comic book just happened to be written by then-Avengers editor, Mark Gruenwald), steps up to the plate in the absence of the Avengers...
Later, when the Avengers return, Quasar aids Mister Fantastic in resolving the entire situation (much to Captain America's irritation, as Mister Fantastic did not clear anything through him)...

Well, three issues later (by John Byrne, Paul Ryan and Tom Palmer), Quasar is now suddenly a member of the team...
Now obviously, you don't need to be a genius to just fill in the blanks there. "Oh, I guess they asked him to join after he helped them out."
However, Mark Gruenwald was not the type of guy who would just leave these things up to, "Oh, I guess they asked him to join," so he wrote a story in Avengers Annual #18 set between Avengers #303 and #304 that showed Quasar joining the team (art by Mark Bagley and Chris Ivy)...
First, Cap and Hawkeye fight over which Avengers team Quasar should join...
Cap wins.
Cap and Quasar discuss whether he thinks Avengers membership would be right for him, before agreeing to give it a shot...
Cap then puts Quasar through some tests...
Firelord attacks, but Cap just makes that into another test and Quasar is in!
It's a very cute bit. It's probably not a story that needed to be told, but it was still very cute. And Gruenwald got to plus Quasar, which was always fun!
