Ashley Smith-Brown has been released from his contract by Plymouth Argyle, the League Two club have announced.

It comes after the 23-year-old defender was sent back from his season-long loan at Oldham Athletic.

Smith-Brown signed a two-year deal with the Pilgrims after leaving Manchester City in the summer of 2018.

He played much of last season at left-back for Argyle under former boss Derek Adams.

However, Smith-Brown also had a spell playing at right-back as he made a total of 36 starts and one substitute appearance during the 2018/19 relegation campaign.

His only goal for the Pilgrims came in a 5-1 home win against Rochdale in February 2019.

Smith-Brown signed a season-long loan with Oldham at the start of August but has played only nine times for them.

His last appearance came in a 6-1 away defeat of Mansfield Town on October 12.
