Drama As Zungu’s Move Falls Through...
by Joe CrannIt looked as though Bongani Zungu was on the verge of a dream move to LaLiga in Spain, but it looks to have fallen through...
The Siya crew reported earlier this week that the Bafana Bafana midfielder was close to joining RCD Mallorca after terms had been agreed between his current club, Amiens, and the Spanish outfit, but that it was always dependent on the French side finding a replacement.
It had been agreed that the 27-year-old would join Los Bermellones on loan until the end of the season with an option to buy in July, but it was then reported that Amiens had decided to pull out of the deal because they would prefer the South African to stay.
Zungu was already in Spain and is believed to have undergone his medical at his proposed new club on Friday in anticipation of a deadline day switch to LaLiga, but after a last-minute push to sign Tottenham Hotspur's Victor Wanyama collapsed, the deal does seem to be doomed.
According to Siya sources, talks were going on behind the scenes in order to try and push the deal through in time before the deadline, but with Amiens having only announced the signing of a striker – and both the French and Spanish windows now having closed – the Bafana man will now have to focus on finishing the season strongly and hope that another chance to move to LaLiga arises at the end of the season.
