Steve Bruce has hailed the signing of Danny Rose - after Newcastle United beat Bournemouth and Watford to his signature well ahead of deadline day.

The left-back is in line to make his Toon debut against Norwich City at St James' Park after completing his move to Tyneside on Thursday.

Bruce feels that Rose - who has played in major finals and at the last World Cup - is a fantastic aquisition.

He said: "If he played for England in the World Cup and Euro Cup final then we're delighted to get him.

"There's not as good a left-back in England - that's why he plays for his country.

"The move north suited him which makes a rare change.

"He's a northern lad, he didn't take much persuading.

"He knows he is walking into a massive football club for six month and we'll see where that takes us in the summer.

"Whatever happened at Spurs has happened, he needs a fresh challenge."

Rose gives Newcastle's squad an immediate lift and Bruce added: "We’ve got one or two knocks but the three new lads are essential coming into the squad and they’ll have a big part to play.

"We’re still without eight or nine but in the next couple of weeks, hopefully, we’ll get a few back."
