Tennis: Junior tournament exposes youngsters' talents

Coach Edward Odocken believes the just concluded National Junior Tennis Tournament has helped give exposure to upcoming younger players.
“This was a national ranking tournament were we wanted to know the positions of these junior players in their different age categories. We believe this has created a big platform for many young players to expose their talent”, stated Odocken
In the national junior competition finals, Kakuru Byaruhanga defeated his brother Kato Byaruhanga 7-4, 7-3 to win the U6 boys singles category while Ali Katenda beat Jonathan Ssenyomo 7-5, 7-4 to top the U8 category.
Praise Agenomungu, Anisha Nakato , Precious Apio, and Edina Nabiryo and were winners in the U6, U8, U10, and U12 in the girls singles category respectively.
Agenomungu, Nakato, Apio, and Nabriyo defeated Mary Aniothroth 7-5, 7-4, Tracy Queen 7-1 7-2, Dhaavi Dechamma 7-4, 7-3 and Eseza Muwanguzi 3-4, 4-3, 10-4 respectively.

Uganda are the defending champions in the girls' category after the team of Maggie Flavia Namaganda, Eseza Muwanguzi, and Paula Awino qualified in Nairobi and represented East Africa at the Africa Junior competition that was held at the Moundir Tennis Academy last year in September. The boys’ team finished second to Kenya and comprised of Troy Zziwa, Allan Otto and Junior Nyata, and also represented East Africa at the same event.
