Residents helped to safety during early-hours Dudley house fire
Four people fled to safety with the help of a passer-by during a house fire in the early hours of this morning.
by Jordan ReynoldsAdnan Mughal was driving home from work at around 2.15am when he saw a teenager outside a house in Himley Road, Dudley, trying to get help.
He said: "There was a teenager outside shouting for help.
"I saw people looking through a window upstairs, there was smoke everywhere I couldn't see anything.
"I ran inside and went upstairs and saw the four people and one dog in the room so I brought them out one by one.
"It was very thick smoke and when I came home I started coughing.
"The family thanked me, they were crying outside."
The residents managed to get out of the terraced house before fire crews arrived and then had to be treated by paramedics.
Noone is thought to have been seriously injured but two people were taken to Russells Hall Hospital for further checks.
A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We got a call at 2.18am this morning to Himley Road in Dudley.
"We sent three crews to the scene, from Dudley, Tipton and Bilston, a total of 15 firefighters.
"The first engine got to the scene in under three minutes.
"The stop message came in at 2.45am, it was a fire in a terraced property.
"It looks like all the people have exited the property prior to our arrival and were being assessed by colleagues from the ambulance service.
"Four firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used a hose reel jet to put out the fire which was in the kitchen.
"Firefighters ventilated the property and the cause is not known yet."
Claire Brown, spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "We were called by the fire service to reports of a property fire on Himley Road, Dudley.
"Two ambulances and a paramedic officer were sent to the scene.
"Two patients were given treatment on scene before being taken to Russells Hall Hospital for further precautionary checks."
