A man has been rushed to hospital after becoming trapped under a steel beam this morning.

Emergency services were called to a property in Gulworthy near Tavistock just after 10.30am.

Fire crews had to use specialist machinery to release the man's legs from under the beam before he was treated by paradmedics.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "One fire appliance from Tavistock and one from Bere Alston attended an incident where a male was trapped by his legs under a steel beam.

"Crews worked alongside paramedics to rescue the casualty using hydraulic rescue and stabilisation equipment.

"Once released, the casualty was swiftly transferred to hospital via ambulance."

A South Western Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 10.33am about an incident at an address in Tavistock.

"We sent a volunteer responder, a land ambulance crew and another paramedic to attend the incident."
