Hardwork and perseverance paid off for 11-year-old Louise Lepront, who placed an impressive fourth position in a surfing friendly this past weekend at Dairy Beach in Durban. The event was a friendly competition as the French Groms surfers were in training and children were picked from all around the country. The little surfer began surfing three years ago and loves every aspect of the sport.

“I enjoy being at the beach and socialising. My brother, Luc, needed a surfing partner and pushed me to do it. I love surfing with my brother because he is my role model,” she said.

The Warner Beach Primary School learner also enjoys watching YouTube videos of professional surfer, Kanoa Igarashi, as this helps her learn some of her techniques.

When asked what competing against older girls was like, Louise proudly said, “It’s more fun! I have to work harder and I love challenging myself.”

She also enjoys a wide variety of sports and outdoor activities.
