Nirbhaya convicts finding loopholes to avoid hanging, dire need to amend laws: Arvind Kejriwal

The four death row convicts in the 2012 Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case will not be hanged on Saturday morning as a Delhi court on Friday postponed the execution of their black warrants till further order.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Friday said that he was saddened that convicts in the Nirbhaya case are finding loopholes in the law to avoid their death sentence.

"We are in dire need to amend our laws, so that hanging takes place within 6 months in rape cases," Arvind Kejriwal further said in his tweet.

The four death row convicts in the 2012 Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case will not be hanged on Saturday morning as a Delhi court on Friday postponed the execution of their black warrants till further order.

After the court's order, Nirbhaya's father Badrinath blamed Arvind Kejriwal for the delay in hanging of the four convicts.

Meanwhile, Nirbhaya's mother Asha Devi broke down outside the court and blamed political parties and the state and central government for the delay in executing the convicts. She said none of them are interested in implementing the court's order.

"Why do we have a system where nothing happens to the culprits even after courts have pronounced them guilty and awarded sentences?" she asked.

"The government will have to execute them. I will continue my fight. These convicts have no right to live. We keep getting disappointed by the system. I will continue my fight till the convicts are hanged," she said.
