KKR’s new signing Tom Banton responds to the advice made by Michael Vaughan to not play in the upcoming edition of the IPL.

Michael Vaughan advised Tom Banton to skip the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League, as the player is set to play for Kolkata Knight riders during the Indian summer.

The concern of Banton’s compatriot and ex-English International was that Banton should play for the Somerset for the first few weeks in order to make contention for the number 6 position in England’s cricket team.

“If I were in charge I would be on the phone this week to Tom Banton telling him to give up his IPL deal and play the first few weeks of the county season for Somerset because there is a slot available at No 6 in the Test side,” Vaughan wrote in a column for Telegraph Sport.

Banton who gained huge prominence ahead of the IPL auction because of his performances in the Big Bash League in Australia made him earn a decorated purchase by KKR.

Kolkata had secured the services of the England star Tom Banton for the upcoming season at his base price of Rs 1 crore. Yet Banton seems to give a thought to Vaughan’s advice upon talking to a journalist regarding this but still said that he is 100% committed to KKR.

“Yes, 100 per cent. When I was growing up, IPL was definitely something I thought I’d love to do, and play for England and definitely in Test cricket as well. But we’ll just have to wait and see,” Tom Banton said.

Banton had an explosive season in the BBL as he played seven games for Brisbane Heat and slammed three half-centuries including a 16-ball fifty. With T20I world cup coming near, IPL can be a good platform to earn a spot in the national team for the World cup in Australia.

Meanwhile, a spot in the Test squad is equally prestigious, considering England are genuine contenders along with India for the Test Championship.
