Nissan Titan Becomes Snarling Beast With Sweet-Sounding Exhaust
Borla's new cat-back exhaust really brings out the fury in the Nissan Titan's V8 roar.
by Aaron BrzozowskiWe're of the opinion that the Nissan Titan doesn't get as much recognition as it deserves in the US market. Nissan may be a Japanese automaker, but the Titan was penned in California, its engineering work took place in Michigan, and its production is carried out in Mississippi. If you're looking for an all-American pickup truck, why not consider the Titan?
And then there's the Titan's peach of a gasoline engine: Nissan's 5.6L DOHC V8, which as of 2020 puts out a stout 400 horsepower, 413 lb-ft of torque, and a delicious exhaust note that doesn't sound too far off from a Ford Mustang GT.
Seriously.
At least the folks at Borla Exhaust are showing the Nissan Titan some love. The company has put out an aftermarket catalyst-back exhaust system for the 2016-'19 Nissan Titan, and a video published this week gives us a taste of what the Titan's sonorous 5.6L V8 sounds like when it's allowed to exhale just a little bit more freely. In a word: terrific.
This Borla unit is made from 2.25"-diameter T-304 stainless steel for a finish that will last, and it has a one-million-mile warranty to prove it. It features a pair of 4" round, angle-cut tips, available in black or polished steel, and it's been engineered specifically for this application.
Mind you, with a $1,399.99 MSRP, the Borla S-Type cat-back exhaust for the 2016-'19 Nissan Titan isn't cheap. But we tend to think your ears will thank you for performing the upgrade.
The Nissan Titan has long played second fiddle (or third, fourth, fifth - something like that) to the full-size light duty pickups from America's Big Three automakers, but hearing its sizable V8 through this Borla cat-back, it's hard not to reach the conclusion that that's a bit unjustified. Nissan managed to move just 31,514 Titans in the US in 2019, in the midst of an especially bad year for sales. Ford, meanwhile, managed to move 896,526 examples of the best-selling F-Series. Talk about an unfair fight.
