Woman dies after being pulled from River Towy in Carmarthen

A woman pulled from the River Towy in Carmarthen has died, it has been confirmed.

Emergency services were called to the scene near Lesneven Bridge in the town shortly before 1pm on Thursday.

Police officers headed to an area called The Quay in Carmarthen and were accompanied by fire crews from Swansea and Carmarthen.

The woman, who was understood to be in her 70s, was brought out of the water at a slipway next to the A4242 and taken to hospital in what police described as a serious condition.

Police have now confirmed that she has died.

A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: "We can confirm the woman found in the River Towy, Carmarthen, yesterday, has sadly died.

"Our thoughts are with her family, who are being supported by specialist officers.

"Her death is not being treated as suspicious."
