Man Utd icon Eric Cantona sets rivalry aside in music video of City fan Liam Gallagher

by

Man Utd fans regularly referred to Eric Cantona as 'King Eric' during his playing days - but it looks like he has now well and truly become royalty.

The Frenchman enjoyed a trophy-laden spell with the Red Devils from 1992 to 1997, winning the Premier League title four times and lifting two FA Cups .

The forward also netted 64 league goals in 164 games, so it was little wonder the Old Trafford faithful would call Cantona their own royal.

But in the music video for Liam Gallagher's latest song 'Once', the 53-year-old looks to have taken that moniker a step further.

The ex-Leeds frontman is seen in the video parading around a stately home while wearing a robe and a crown, before enjoying a nice glass of wine and playing the piano.

To add to the bizarre nature of the video, Gallagher himself is later seen acting as the butler to Cantona's character and obediently serves his master.

The partnership is certainly an unlikely one with Cantona, a Utd legend, teaming up with a high-profile City fan in Gallagher.

But the former Oasis lead singer revealed he was honoured to get the chance to work with the Frenchman despite playing for the fierce rivals of his beloved Sky Blues.

"I’m absolutely thrilled to have Eric Cantona, the last rock 'n' roll footballer, star in my video for ‘Once’," wrote Gallagher on Instagram .

"Songs like this don’t come around very often and neither do football players like him."

Cantona himself also seemed pleased with the finished product, posting the clip on his own Instagram account with the caption: "So proud! Thanks Liam, Debbie, Charlie and all your team!"

The role in Gallagher's video is not the first time Cantona has turned his hand to acting, with the 53-year-old having regularly appeared on TV and in films since retiring in 1997.
