BrightSparks judging panel highlight: Lizzie Truett, IET

by

A few weeks ago, we shone a spotlight on a new addition to the EW BrightSparks judging panel, Dr. Frederick Schulze Spüntrup. Today, we’re welcoming back the IET’s young professionals strategic development manager, Lizzie Truett.

The BrightSparks programme, run in partnership RS Components, aims to find and highlight the best and brightest young engineers working or studying in the UK.

Through its young professionals platform, the IET provides both a student hub, with resources, support and blogs, along with workshops, mentors and networking for those who have entered the workforce already.

With this trove of resources, experience and knowledge, Lizzie is a natural fit to bolster the EW BrightSparks judging panel.

On joining the programme last year, she had this to say:

“I’m incredibly honoured and excited to be part of the judging panel… I’m really looking forward to seeing the inspirational work of the entrants this year and see how they can become role models for the budding engineers of the future.”

Lizzie has also spoken about the importance of apprenticeships and how employers can support workers’ mental health as part of student marketing agency Hype Collective’s Work Issue.

The IET will once again be hosting the EW BrightSparks live event on 4 May this year, so its presence on the judging panel is fitting and appreciated! Here’s what Lizzie had to say about returning to help select 2020’s cohort:

“The IET are passionate about inspiring the next generation of technicians and engineers and a program like BrightSparks is the perfect way to acknowledge and celebrate the talent emerging in the engineering & technology profession.

“I was part of the judging panel last year and I was blown away by what these people are achieving at such a young age and it was really hard to choose the top 30. I’m really looking forward to seeing the applications this year.”
