The limited edition console has plenty of neat touches to tie into the game. The two Joy-Con are a two-tone pastel green or blue on the front, and cream on the back – with Joy-Con wrist straps also coloured cream – while the rear of the main Switch itself has shiny detailing. The Dock has been coloured cream with Tom Nook and Nooklings Timmy and Tommy on a little island on the front. Included in the box is a digital code for the game. It’s up for pre-order at £319.99 in the UK, but you can nab it for $299.99 in the US, because… capitalism?

Alongside this, there’s new Animal Crossing: New Horizons themed Carrying Case & Screen Protector for both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch LIte, so if you can’t really justify getting a completely new console, but do want to Animal Crossing up your life, you can still do that.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons will whisk players off to a remote new location, tasking you with creating a new island paradise. At the behest of Tom Nook, you’ll be building everything from scratch, but doing so with more freedom than ever before, able to place furniture outside your home for the first time, and pitching your tent wherever you like.

A lot of the game will tie into the new NookPhone, with a DIY Recipes app to guide your crafting, as well as Nook Miles tracking your every step and rewarding you for performing menial tasks to more involved things.

The phone will also let you “Call an Islander” to invite another island resident into your game with a second player picking up a Joy-Con. There’s co-op on a single system for the first time, for up to four players, while eight people can share an island and play together with multiple systems, whether through local wireless or online multiplayer.

Originally intended for release in 2019, Animal Crossing was delayed to this year at E3 2019, and it doesn’t look like Nintendo are going to let the 20th March 2020 release date slip again.
