TWO House leaders lauded President Rodrigo Duterte for quickly imposing a temporary   ban on Chinese nationals from China’s Hubei province, particularly Wuhan City, the epicenter of the novel coronavirus outbreak.

Both Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano and Majority Leader Martin Romualdez expressed full support for President Duterte and the government agencies in averting the possible impact of the N-CoV in the Philippines

A Chinese woman from Wuhan was confirmed having the virus and is now being monitored in a Manila hospital.

“Nakakasigurado tayo na para sa Pangulo, ang kalusugan ng mga Pilipino ang pinakamahalaga. Kaya naman suportado po natin ang kanyang direktiba tungkol sa “travel ban” sa mga taong nagmumula sa apektadong probinsya sa China,” Cayetano said.

Romualdez said President Duterte made a very smart decision to effectively strategize government’s campaign against the spread of the 2019 novel coronavirus.

Romualdez stressed that DOH officials were guided by international health experts and standards in recommending to the President the temporary travel ban on Chinese nationals from Hubei province and other nCov-hit areas in China.

“Please work for the common good of everyone. Avoid sowing panic. Stop spreading false information and hate campaign against Chinese people. Let’s pray for the good health and immediate recovery of those who have been affected,” he urged the public.

The House leadership under Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano is prepared to support the logistical requirement that the DOH may need to combat the novel coronavirus.

Cayetano reiterated the DOH reminder to the people to practice good hygiene, and to heed the advce of health professionals.
