Marcel Langer eagerly anticipating 'crazy' Tynecastle atmosphere after penning short-term Hearts deal

The midfielder links up with Daniel Stendel once again having played under him at Hannover 96

New Hearts signing Marcel Langer can't wait to sample the "crazy" Tynecastle atmosphere after watching highlights of last weekend's win over Rangers.

The German is the Jambos fourth addition of the January window after penning a deal until the end of the season.

And what he's seen on the screen has him buzzing to pull on the maroon shirt and get going.

"I watched the highlights from the Rangers game at the atmosphere was crazy," he said.

"Normally we played in front of about 5000 people in Germany, but this will be different, this is nice."

The defensive midfielder links up with Daniel Stendel once more, having previously played under him when a youth player at Hannover.

He left for Schalke 04 in 2018 played 27 times for the Gelsenkirchen club’s reserve side before departing earlier in the January transfer window.

"When I played in the youth of Hannover 96 I worked together with him in the Under 19s" Langer explained.

"We were really successful and won the German Cup so it was a good connection.

"He called me before New Year's Eve and I was direct. 'Yes I want to do this'. Then we spoke with Schalke and now I'm here.

"It wasn't a hard decision because I like adventures. It;s new country, new city and new language but I'm looking forward to it

"I'm ready to play. I trained with Schalke since the 2nd of January so I;m totally ready."

Stendel isn't the only familiar face in Gorgie to greet Langers, having briefly been a teammate of Donis Avdijaj in Gelsenkirchen.

"Yes, I know him," Langer smiled. "I trained with him for one month in Schalke but I had a really nice and funny time with him.

"I met up with Donis yesterday in the hotel and we talked for one hour.

"The manager I know, Jorg Sievers [assistant] I know. This is good."

The 22-year-old gives Stendel a slightly more experienced option in the middle of the park alongside Toby Sibbick and Andy Irving.

Loic Damour, who signed a four-year contract just last summer, looks to be on his way out of Tynecastle if a club can be found for him before the close of play today.

Rangers’ Greg Docherty was an option for Hearts earlier in the window, but Stendel’s preference was to bring in his fellow countryman.
