Brexit is here.

The UK will leave the European Union at 11pm tonight.

It comes almost 50 years after Britain joined the European Communities, now called the EU.

Since the EU referendum in 2016, Scots have been swamped with information, allegations and theories about what the future holds.

But what will actually happen tomorrow morning?

Will anything change?

In reality, our lives will be more or less the same as of February 1 but there are some things worth remembering for months to come.

Here's our rundown of what will change with Brexit after January 31?

Business

Brexit sparked a lot of confusion for Scots business owners.

Any dubiety around leaving was quashed when Boris Johnson struck a deal with Brussels and won a majority in the general election.

A trade arrangement must be settled by the end of this year.

The UK Government  is making things a little more difficult as they wants to get away from EU trade rules while maintaining independence in areas such as fisheries.

Trade won't change much till 2021.

Once the trade talks are over Scottish businesses will have a clearer idea of what fees they may need to pay to sell or import good from abroad.

One notable change is that the UK will lose its representation on EU regulators which could have an effect on certain industries, such as chemical products and the finance services sector.

Travel

Scots who've booked holidays to Europe for this year will not be affected in any way by Brexit.

Changes to visa arrangements will not come into play until 2021.

European Health Insurance cards will be valid for this year, as will pet passports.

Mobile roaming charges won't apply for the rest of this year, but may come into play in 2021.

EU nationals and Scottish expats in Europe

Until 2021, all EU nationals and Scottish expats will be able to remain where they are living and keep the same rights.

EU nationals living in Scotland can apply for settled status with the EU settlement scheme.

The deadline for applying to the settlement scheme is June 2021.

What happens going forward?

The UK, or an independent Scotland, could apply to rejoin the EU in the future.

As of Friday, British MEPs won't stand in the EU Parliament.

We told how the MEPs were serenaded out of the parliament building to Auld Lang Syne.

New passport applications will not have European Union on the front, but will still be burgundy.

All things considered, January 2021 is when we see the most changes when it comes to Brexit.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon fought her party's case for Indyref2 which Boris Johnson rejected.

The results of the next Scottish Parliamentary election may change the matter of Indyref2.
