Drought tariffs to take effect from tomorrow
Water restrictions will officially come into effect in the City of Mbombela Local Municipality tomorrow, February 1.
by Deborah GbenroWith the water restrictions, increased tariffs and penalties will also come into effect.
- Water users are not allowed to wash hard surfaces or paved areas with drinking water.
- The watering of gardens, flower beds, parks, lawns and other open spaces will not be allowed between 09:00 and 18:00.
- City council, government entities and parks will be exempted from the water restrictions subject on application to the municipal manager.
- The washing of vehicles is only allowed with buckets or hosepipes with automated self-closing.
- Unmetered and unauthorised car-washing businesses connected to the kaNyamazane-Pienaar-kaBokweni bulk line will be removed to curb water wastage and losses.
- No automatic top-up systems are allowed for swimming pools. Water fountains and water features are to be operated only with recycled water.
- The city warned that possible changes in the water pressure might be experienced by residents due to the low levels of raw water intake, and reservoir outlets might be closed at times to build pressure in the system.
