BACK IN THE DAY
January 31 2010: O’Neill facing up to eight weeks on the sidelines

Tyrone manager Mickey Harte is optimistic that star forward Stephen O'Neill could be playing again within eight weeks.
The Clann na nGael clubman suffered a dislocated right elbow during Saturday evening’s Dr McKenna Cup final against Donegal and the initial prognosis was that he would be out of action for 12 weeks.
However, even though there is a fear that O’Neill has also sustained a slight bone fracture from the freak incident, medical advice suggests that his return will come sooner rather than later.
Indeed, after it seemed O’Neill would be out for three months, Harte commented last night: ‘‘We’d be hopeful if things went well that would be down to eight weeks or so.
‘‘After what we saw, and the initial suggestions, that would be good news if that is the time-frame.’’
Such a recovery schedule might even allow O’Neill to feature in Tyrone’s last two League matches, at home to Kerry (March 27) and Dublin (April 11), but the Red Hands won’t rush him back.
Harte is also hopeful that defender Justin McMahon will be available for selection in the League Division One opener against old rivals Derry this coming Saturday despite receiving three or four stitches in his head and had to come off as well at Brewster Park during the eventual defeat by Donegal.
