Robocalls: How common are they?
by Kristen Spicker— From October to December 2019, the Federal Trade Commission reported more than 19.5 million do not call complaints in the United States.
Ohio ranked 14th in the country for the complaints, logging 758,378 in that same period.
Of those complaints 64.5% — or 479,382 — involved robocalls.
The top three DNC complaint topics included calls about reducing debt, medical and prescriptions and impostors, according to the FTC.
In all three categories, robocalls make up more than 70% of the complaints.
Alex Quilici CEO of YouMail, a robocall blocking app, said users in the Dayton area get somewhere between 13 and 15 robocalls a month.
While annoying, compared to people in the Washington D.C. area, who get around 60 a month, Quilici said Dayton isn’t doing too bad.
But a new law regulating robocalls could help protect people even more, according to its supporters.
News Center 7’s I-Team took a closer look at the legislation and investigated what regulating robocalls means for the Miami Valley. Tune in Thursday, Jan. 30, at 5:30 p.m. for more details.
