Rangers ‘set to clinch’ Matej Vydra signing on transfer deadline day
by David FowlerRANGERS are set to seal a deadline day loan deal for Burnley striker Matej Vydra, according to reports.
Steven Gerrard is keen to bolster his attacking options as the club endeavour to claim the Premiership title back from Celtic in the latter part of this season and the Glasgow Times are reporting that the 27-year-old Czech is set to arrive before the midnight deadline.
While a move for Florian Kamberi is also on the cards, Vydra would be a quality acquisition who would compete with Alfredo Morelos and the currently injured Jermain Defoe for a place up front.
First coming to prominence with a prolific spell at Watford, Rangers' sporting director Ross Wilson's former club, Vydra moved to Derby County for £8million then banged in 22 goals as the Rams reached the play-offs during the 2017-18 season.
From there it was onto Burnley for a bumper £11m transfer fee, but the high profile move hasn't worked out as planned.
Vydra has made just nine appearances for Sean Dyche without scoring a goal this season, enough to alert the likes of Leeds United and Bristol City in recent times. But Rangers appear to have acted quickly and seem poised to seal their second high-profile signing during this deadline day.
Ianis Hagi, the son of Romanian legend Gheorghe has already confirmed his arrival on an initial six-month loan from Genk.
