CELTIC are now in talks with Tottenham over a loan move for Victor Wanyama, according to reports from down south.

Reports earlier claimed that the Hoops could land their former player in a shock '£8million' Deadline Day move.

Now the Evening Standard have claimed the Parkhead club are discussing a temporary switch for the Kenyan with Spurs.

Spurs are reportedly expected to pay a significant portion of Wanyama's £60,000-a-week wages as part of any deal.

However, an option to buy the midfielder in the summer would reportedly also be included, although the transfer fee could ultimately prove to be a problem.

While Celtic are keeping an eye on potential Deadline Day business, they are reportedly concerned about Wanyama's long-term fitness.

And Parkhead sources have played down reports they are locked in talks with Spurs and suggested the Kenyan WON'T be making a dramatic Deadline Day return to Celtic Park.

Wanyama became a fan favourite at Celtic during his two years at the club between 2011 and 2013.

He made 91 appearances in all competitions and scored 13 goals from midfield, and particularly impressed in the Champions League.

Wanyama made the move to Southampton in a £12.5m move in 2013 before being taken to Spurs by Mauricio Pochettino in 2016.

But his career has stalled at Tottenham amid repeated injury problems and has made just four appearances in all competitions this season.
