Report: Manchester United make enquiry for Southampton striker Danny Ings
by Will ButcherThe Telegraph have claimed that Manchester United have made an enquiry to sign Southampton’s on-fire striker Danny Ings this month, with the ex-Liverpool striker on fire for Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side.
Ings, 27, has scored 14 goals in 24 Premier League games this season and is in line for a recall to the England squad – with just one previous cap to his name. Ings has played for Liverpool, clocking up 25 outings in three years, amid two ACL injuries.
Manchester United are desperate to sign a striker before the 11pm deadline, and have been linked with Salomon Rondon, Islam Slimani, Odion Ighalo, Joshua King and now Southampton star Ings. He has a contract at Southampton until 2022.
Marcus Rashford is injured until March, with the club failing to replace Romelu Lukaku in the summer. United only boast Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood as options, and now Ings has risen as an option.
TBR’s view – Ings would be a stunning signing for United
But would he move to Old Trafford? Liverpool helped the ex-Burnley man massively during his time at Anfield, as he got his career back on track following two crushing ACL injuries. The rivalry between Liverpool and United remains fierce.
Yes, Ings would be an excellent signing for Manchester United – but the £20million (BBC) surely he is likely to ignore a move.
