St Kenneth's athletes claim sixth title in a row at indoor event

Youngsters excel to beat off competition from rival schools to land East Kilbride title

Youngsters from St Kenneth’s Primary School’s athletics squad are celebrating after winning their sixth indoor title in a row last week.

The team took on 14 other schools in the EK Indoor Athletics Final and came out on top after 18 events, including obstacle relay races, a variety of sprint relays and four field events.

St Kenneth’s performed consistently in all the events and scored an outstanding 971 points, making them clear winners from St Leonard’s Primary on 899 points and Kirklandpark Primary on 875 points.

The boy’s team consisted of Gerard Black (Captain), Daniel Connor, Jack Burns, Cameron Falconer, Michael Murtha, Bailey Lang, Kenneth Traynor and Aidan Tearney.

Representing the girls were Annamaria Neill (Captain), Orla Craig, Sienna Elliot, Illaria Kane, Orlaith Bredin, Natalia Lasley, Abbie Mailey and Maya Mulligan.

The team will aim to make it seven straight wins when they contest the South Lanarkshire Indoor Final on February 13 at the John Wright Sports Centre.

P7 pupil and boy’s captain, Gerard Black, said: “It was an incredible day. What a great team effort. We all can’t wait for the South Lanarkshire Final. Bring it on!”

Girl’s captain and P7 star, Annamaria Neill, said: “ I thought it was absolutely amazing at the final. The team tried really hard and the outcome was really good.

“I hope we can keep it going for the County Final.”
