If you were hoping to see a new Nintendo Switch this year. We are sorry to communicate that you will have to wait a little longer. Although manufacturers are not usually clear about the launch of future products, the CEO of the company has confirmed that there will be no successor to the Switch in 2020.

Given the life cycle of the consoles, the Nintendo Switch is still very young. The console was launched three years ago and still enjoys great success, so it is not surprising that the company wants to squeeze it a little more.

In its short life, the Nintendo Switch has reached important goals. Not only has sales exceeded the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (or SNES) but also the Xbox One, at least based on estimates because Microsoft has not disclosed sales figures lately.

No new Nintendo Switch this year

In its latest presentation of financial results, Nintendo states that the Switch should traditionally be halfway through its life, but believes that it still has a lot of things to offer, especially after the launch of the Switch Lite.

“According to traditional conventions on dedicated video game platforms, Nintendo Switch should enter the intermediate phase of the hardware life cycle. But we believe that we have built a base on which we can continue to grow the Switch […] Please bear in mind that we have no plans to launch a new Switch model during 2020”. Said Shuntaro Furukawa, Presidente de Nintendo.

This information puts an end to the rumors that pointed to a possible Switch Pro or Switch 2 Go, for at least 12 months. This official confirmation may be disappointing but not totally surprising. It also lets Nintendo skip the media circus that will inevitably arise from the launch of the PS5 and the Xbox Series X later this year.
