A Hotter 400-HP Toyota Supra GRMN Is Coming

Two more letters = 60 extra horsepower.

An even hotter Toyota Supra could be on the way. As brilliant as the GR Supra is with its 335-hp turbocharged inline-six, there's always been the feeling that the sports car's well-sorted chassis could handle more power. Based on a report from the Japanese website Best Car Web, this more powerful model appears to be in the works, although we don't know what it will look like just yet as no pictures have been released.

Called the Supra GRMN, it will also use a 3.0-liter turbo inline-six but with power up to 395-hp, a solid 18 percent increase in output over the regular model. In our review of the GR Supra, we indicated that Toyota had hinted at a more hardcore model in the future, and the GRMN certainly looks to be just that.

According to the report, the Supra GRMN won't only get a nice bump up in power, but it'll shed some weight, too. This will be accomplished by the use of carbon fiber components. An enhanced, stiffer suspension will form part of the modifications as well, and considering what a riot the GR Supra already is, the GRMN will likely be an even more compelling driver's car.

The report also indicates a debut later this year, so if that turns out to be true, expect to pay more than the GR Supra's $53,990 price tag for the current Premium model. As mentioned, we don't know exactly what the GRMN will look like, but we imagine it would feature bigger wheels, a rear wing, and possibly flared fenders similar to the 3000GT and other Supra concepts (pictured below) unveiled at SEMA 2019.

While we know that Supra owners enjoy modifying their cars (the GR's many vents and scoops improve access to its mechanicals), the GRMN would make a higher sphere of performance available without any added work, plus it'll help the Supra take the fight to more powerful versions of the Porsche 718 Cayman. We're looking forward to seeing how it all pans out because something tells us we haven't seen the best of the Supra just yet.
