by

Siya sources have indicated that a now former Orlando Pirates player has already attracted interested suitors.

The Buccaneers announced yesterday that they parted ways with Asavela Mbekile, with the player receiving his clearance from the club in order to find game-time elsewhere.

“Orlando Pirates Football Club can confirm the amicable parting of ways with Asavela Mbekile following a meeting between both parties earlier today,” the Bucs confirmed on their official website.

Mbekile joined Pirates on a free in July 2018, after leaving Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of his contract.

The 33-year-old made just 17 appearances in all competitions for the Soweto side since joining and leaves the Bucs with just two appearances under his belt for this season.

However, according to Siya sources, Mbekile could quickly get back into action this season, with suitors already showing interest in the versatile player.

Sources have revealed that Stellenbosch FC seems to be leading the race for the player’s signature, while undisclosed clubs in Gauteng are also keeping a close eye on his situation.

Now, it remains to be seen where Mbekile’s next destination will be, although as things stand, there is a good possibility that he could be returning to his hometown, the Western Cape.
