Al-Sultan Abdullah marks first anniversary as King

KUALA LUMPUR: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah – accompanied by the Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah – attended a thanksgiving ceremony last night marking the first anniversary of his swearing-in as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

During the ceremony held at the surau of the Istana Negara, Al-Sultan Abdullah and Tunku Azizah recited the “surah Yasin” along with 300 congregants comprising senior officials and staff of the Istana Negara, as well as students of the Maahad Tahfiz Darus Syabab.

Their Majesties and the congregation then performed Maghrib and “hajat” prayers led by the Imam of the surau, Ustaz Zulkifli Salleh.

Al-Sultan Abdullah and Tunku Azizah also listened to a tazkirah (religious lecture) delivered by Masjid Kampung Pantai Dalam Imam Ustaz Mohd Shahril Abd Samat, before performing the Isyak prayer led by Ustaz Ainuddin Razi from the Federal Territory Islamic Affairs Department.

The ceremony was also attended by the Royal couple’s children – Tengku Puteri Raja Tengku Puteri Iman Afzan, Tengku Puteri Raja Tengku Puteri Ilyana and Tengku Puteri Raja Tengku Puteri Jihan Azizah ‘Athiyatullah.

Al-Sultan Abdullah was elected as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong by the Conference of Rulers on Jan 24, 2019 and sworn in on Jan 31, 2019. – Bernama
