Two men charged with supporting, possessing IS-related items

IPOH: Two men were charged at the Sessions Court here today with supporting and possessing items related to the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group.

However, no plea was recorded from Wan Amirul Azlan Jalaludin, 35, and Muhammad Ayub Musa, 36, after the charges were read out separately before judge Azman Abu Hassan.

For the first charge, Wan Amirul was charged with knowingly supporting the IS terror group by bay'ah (pledge of allegiance) at a house addressed at 56 Blok F, Perumahan Awam 3, Jalan RPA 2/3 Kampung Gajah at 9.03am on Oct 24, last year.

Wan Amirul, who is a masseur, was also charged with possessing items related to the terror group at the same address at 7.20am on Jan 6.

For the first offence, he was charged under Section 130J(1)(a) of the Penal Code which provides for life imprisonment or a jail term of 30 years, or fine; while for the second offence, Wan Amirul was charged under Section 130 JB(1)(a) of the same Code, which carries a jail term of up to seven years or a fine.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Ayub was charged with having in his possession images related to IS and terrorist acts in his Samsung Galaxy J2 Pro mobile phone.

The e-hailing driver allegedly committed the offence at No. 5, Persiaran Taman Meru 14, Taman Meru 2C, Jelapang here at 7.20am on Jan 6. The offence framed under Section 130JB(1)(a) of the Penal Code.

Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Firdaus Abu Hanipah prosecuted while the duo was not represented.

The court fixed March 20 for mention pending forensic reports.
