Deadpool & Wolverine Have Their FINAL Team-Up (and Kill Their Children)

by

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Deadpool: The End #1, by Joe Kelly, Mike Hawthorne, Victor Olazaba, Ruth Redmond and VC's Joe Sabino, on sale now.

James Howlett/Logan, also known as Wolverine, has had some pretty epic team-ups (and fights) with fellow Canadian mutant Wade Wilson/Deadpool. In addition to their many adventures together, the two have a shared origin in the Weapon X program, which turned them into killing machines. Considering their linked origins, it's fitting the pair's last mission would be together -- well, kind of.

Deadpool: The End #1 presents multiple different deaths for the titular Merc with a Mouth, and the antihero's "Bloodiest Ending" reunites him with Logan for one last battle. In the story, Logan and Deadpool have both had their DNA stolen by a mysterious company. This leads them into conflict with a horde of clones made from their combined DNA. This means the fighters are half-Deadpool and half-Wolverine, and essentially their children.

Although the section is pretty short, Deadpool and Logan seem to find success, killing all their clones. However, at some point, their healing factors are disabled. As they've been impaled by multiple arrows and a spear, they're done for and about to die. Sitting on the corpse of a particularly massive clone, the two exchange witty banter. As their story wraps up, Deadpool says, "Canada for the win."

It's not totally clear which version of Logan appears in this scene. Although he's definitely reminiscent of Old Man Logan, who is from the dystopian Earth-807128, this probably isn't actually that version of the character. Dead Man Logan killed its title hero in a much different way; he went down during a confrontation with Sabretooth and Mister Sinister. There's also no good reason to believe this is the Earth-616 version of the X-Men hero. Of course, none of The End stories are canonical, so this is likely just a random one-off universe.

While all the endings in Deadpool: The End #1 vary a lot in how Deadpool meets his demise, this one allows the Merc with a Mouth to die fighting with one of his best friends. Although Wolverine has to die beside, well, Deadpool, so maybe this ending is happier for some than others.
