Solskjaer explains why Bruno Fernandes has changed his plans to sign new striker

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appeared to close the door on the possibility of Manchester United signing a new striker on transfer deadline day.

United reportedly failed in a late bid to sign Josh King from Bournemouth just hours after they’d confirmed the addition of midfielder Bruno Fernandes.

Solskjaer’s options in the forward department are limited, but the Norwegian hinted the signing of Fernandes had changed his plans to add another striker.

‘I am happy with ones I have here,’ he said.

‘And with Bruno coming in we can play in a different way maybe.

‘And of course with the centre-backs coming back lately and what we’ve done with three at the back, that might be an option to tactically change a bit.’

Marcus Rashford’s latest injury has intensified United’s need for another senior striker, with Anthony Martial now the only fit frontman in the squad.

Solskjaer has been forced to call on teenager Mason Greenwood multiple times this season, but when asked if King was an option, the United boss again shut down the rumours.

‘I don’t think we will do any more business, no. I don’t think so,’ he said.

‘Just relax. What happens, happens.’

While fans will continue to cross their fingers over a deadline day signing, Marcos Rojo has left the club after re-joining his boyhood club Estudiantes on loan for the rest of the season.

‘Marcos is a lovely lad, fantastic, he’s got that fire in his belly,’ Solskjaer said about the defender’s exit.

‘He wasn’t getting enough football and it was important for him to start playing.

‘He was in the away end at City, Liverpool too, a passionate guy, who wants to support his team and he wants to come back fitter. Something we had to do.’
