The Good Place fans left 'emotionally devastated' over forking perfect finale

by

The Good Place has officially come to an end, with viewers saying a final goodbye to Janet, Michael, Eleanor and co.

And holy shirtballs, it was perfect.

After spending years trying to escape hell and living their best lives a trillion times over when they finally reached the good place, it was finally time for everyone’s journeys to come to an end – sort of.

The finale kicked off with Jason (Manny Jacinto) revealing that, after playing one last game of Madden, he was finally ready to move on.

After a few emotional seconds, he took himself through the door Janet had knocked up, bringing his journey to an end.

It’s later revealed he didn’t actually go through with his plan because he needed to give Janet a J&J necklace first.

Side note: Who knew Jason would be the true romantic of the Good Place?

With his departure apparently done with, it was over to Tahani (Jameela Jamil) to figure out exactly how she wanted to spend her days, after eventually making up with her parents when they make it through to paradise.

However, in true Tahani form, she didn’t feel like following Jason through the door, but found a different path, taking on the role of a Good Place architect.

Things weren’t as simple for Chidi (William Jackson Harper) and Eleanor (Kristen Bell), after he got a little bored of life, yearning for the next step.

Eleanor wasn’t ready to leave, or to let him go, but eventually made a selfless decision to let him walk through the door without her, leaving us all sobbing at home.

She carried on with the selfless acts, putting all her energy into helping Michael figure out his own purpose.

Armed with the knowledge that he wanted to be human more than anything else, she set about making this happen alongside Janet – designing him a fairly ordinary life (with a cameo from Ted’s real-life wife, Mary Steenburgen), and thus giving us the truly emotional goodbye we didn’t know we needed.

After a solid eternity, Eleanor was as selfless as she could possibly be, and finally took a walk through the arches and into the unknown.

Fans were left devastated by the ending, flocking to Twitter in their teary droves to mark the end of the series.

One wrote: ‘#TheGoodPlace was perfect. Now I need a few days to emotionally recover.’

‘Absolutely perfect finish for #TheGoodPlace @nbcthegoodplace Thanks for being a wave on our ocean for a while,’ another posted.

While a Twitter user said: ‘That was perfect. I’m honestly emotionally devastated but so happy as well. I feel like I should miss new episodes but the whole thing was perfect that there’s a calm acceptance that it’s ended. #TheGoodPlace.’

‘If anyone is looking for me I’m the emotionally destroyed husk of a human being who just finished #TheGoodPlace and now cannot leave the couch or breathe properly,’ a follower added.

Us too, hun. Us too.

The Good Place is available to stream on Netflix.
