Gwyneth Paltrow's Goop slammed by Watchdog over 'deceptive' claims

by

Gwyneth Paltrow and Goop have been slammed by a Watchdog for making ‘phony’ claims on the health benefits of some of its products.

The Oscar-winning actress founded Goop in 2007 as a newsletter, but it has now grown into a massive lifestyle business that sells all manner of weird and wonderful items to the Hollywood bourgeois.

Now, however, advertising watchdog Truth In Advertising (Tina.org) has slammed Goop and its website for ‘deceptively marketing products.’

In an 11 page complaint filed with California regulators, Tina.org alleges that ‘Goop currently claims that ingredients in two perfumes and two candles can treat numerous mental disorders.’

They say this violates an agreement Goop made with Orange County District Attorney’s Office in 2018 after some of its products (including the infamous vagina eggs) claimed to help alleviate could treat a range of ailments from anxiety to menopause.

Products named in the filing include the Madame Ovary supplements to help those suffering from menopause and the Edition 02 perfume which can apparently help calm your anxiety.

Goop previously settled a $145,000 dispute in 2018 after Tina.org made similar claims, most notably to the company’s vaginal jade eggs.

Luckily, you’ll be happy to know that Gwynnie’s iconic vagina candle is not named in the complaint.

In reaction to the news, Goop has disputed the findings, insisting that it ‘robust legal and compliance team that works closely with our science and research group to vet product claims.’

They continue that: ‘all legitimate issues around product claims and efficacy very seriously.’

With all this drama, you’d forget that the Shakespeare In Love star most recently made moves to turn Goop into a cultural phenomenon.

She most recently oversaw the launch of the Goop Lab on Netflix, even promoting the new show with a floral vagina (of course she did).

And those vagina candles? Turns out they have a massive fan in none other than pop legend Elton John.
