Derby County are likely to revisit their interest in Groningen defender Mike te Wierik in the summer.

A deal for the 27-year-old is highly unlikely to happen before the transfer window closes at 11pm tonight.

But the player, who is Groningen's captain, is out of contract at the end of the season and would be a free agent.

He has made 21 appearances in all competitions for Groningen this season, who currently sit in eighth place in the Dutch top flight.

Prior to moving to the Noordlease Stadion in 2017, he made 161 outings for boyhood side Heracles.

Groningen's sporting director, Mark-Jan Fledderus, appeared to confirm Derby's interest in te Wierik in an interview with Dutch media.

Fledderus was quoted by Dutch website Rtvnoord saying: "They reported to us yesterday and it is concrete in itself."
