Deputies spot stolen vehicle while on patrol, arrest driver and passenger
by Breaking News StaffHARRISON TWP. — The driver and passenger in a stolen vehicle are in custody after both tried to avoid arrest -- one by hiding in a store restroom and the other by running.
Deputies from the Harrison Twp. substation spotted a stolen vehicle about 8:15 p.m. while on patrol in the 3700 block of North Dixie Drive, according to a statement from Montgomery County Sheriff Rob Streck.
The sheriff's statement does not make clear whether the driver and passenger jumped out of the vehicle or whether it was parked when deputies saw it.
The driver "briskly walked into a nearby convenience store" once he saw that deputies noticed the vehicle, according to the statement. Deputies found him hiding in the restroom of the business.
He has been booked into the county jail pending the filing of a receiving stolen property charge.
The passenger, also identified only as a male, ran but was taken into custody in a wooded area near a traffic circle. He is wanted by the Ohio Parole Authority, for violating the terms of parole, and so was booked into jail also.
The sheriff's office did not release the names of either male.
