Teenager stabbed in attack near Sainsbury's in Wolverhampton

A teenager was taken to hospital after being stabbed close to Sainsbury's in Wolverhampton.

The injured 17-year-old was attacked by a group of men and woman in the underpass near the supermarket off the city centre ring road on Thursday, police said.

Emergency services were called to Alexandra Street, Graiseley, close to the Eagle Works building.

The boy was given trauma care at the scene behind the supermarket near to Chapel Ash at about 6.30pm.

He had surgery in hospital and his injuries are not life threatening, police added.

An ambulance, paramedic and critical care car from the Midlands Air Ambulance attended.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "One teenage boy was given trauma care on scene before being taken on blue lights to hospital for further emergency treatment."

Brigg Ford, spokesman for West Midlands Police, said: "We were alerted by ambulance colleagues just before 6.30pm on Thursday to a stabbing in an underpass near Sainsbury’s car park in Chapel Ash, Wolverhampton.

"A 17-year-old lad from Wolverhampton suffered stab injuries to his chest, torso and arm; he was taken to hospital for surgery where he remains. His injuries are not life threatening.

"It’s understood the victim was attacked by a group of people, men and women, and enquiries are underway to trace them. Anyone with information or witnesses are asked to contact us on Live Chat via the website or by calling 101 and quoting crime ref 20WV/27108X/20."
