Hollyoaks' new villain confirms truth over explosive Verity and Edward fan theory

Hollyoaks fans recently predicted a major twist would rock the Hutchinson family, after the arrival of the Channel 4 soap's big new villain Edward.

Edward, played by actor Joe McGann, made his debut late last year shortly after the disappearance of his son Tony - with it revealed he will be a part of the big 25th anniversary later this year.

He soon started a romance with Tony's wife Diane, with both of them unaware Tony hadn't walked out on her but had in fact been kidnapped by serial killer Breda McQueen.

In January, Edward's daughter and Tony's secret half-sister Verity made her own debut, sparking a romance with Sami Maalik before leaving for London.

But there was something about the scenes that aroused suspicion, not forgetting Edward's claims of also having another son.

Viewers began to predict Edward and Verity were hiding something major, and might not even be father and daughter.

Some fans questioned if Verity was really the child of Edward at all, and if she was actually his wife or partner.

It has happened in soaps before after all!

Convinced something wasn't being revealed, viewers asked if the pair were simply out to get Tony and were in fact of no relation.

One fan tweeted: "Edward and Verity are definitely a pair of con artists and definitely not related."

Speaking exclusively to Mirror Online , Edward actor Joe has addressed the claims and hinted what is really going on.

Joe appeared to play down the idea, revealing there was also a son out there somewhere - while remaining coy on what they could be hiding, and if another newcomer would make a debut.

On the suggestion of Verity not being his daughter, he told us: "Edward, I believe, rescued the children from the plane crash that killed his wife - not only Verity but his son too who may or may not appear at some point. We'll see.

"There's a lot more to come from the Hutchinson family in the near future so stay tuned."

Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6:30pm on Channel 4, with the next episode at 7pm on E4.
