Ole Gunnar Solskjaer expects Marcos Rojo to come back to United as a better player following his loan move to Estudiantes in the January transfer window.

The Argentinian international rejoined his boyhood club on a temporary deal until the end of the season earlier this week.

MEN Sport first reported last year that Rojo was exploring the possibility of a loan move as he looks to rejuvenate his career ahead of this summer's Copa America tournament.

The popular defender will now link up with Solskjaer's former United teammate Juan Sebastian Veron, who is a director at Estudiantes.

Speaking at his press conference on Friday morning, Solskjaer explained the decision to let Rojo leave the club temporarily and praised the 29-year-old for the passion he has shown at the club.

"Marcos is a lovely lad, fantastic, he's got the fire in his belly, he's a winner," Solskjaer said.

"He wasn't getting enough football here and was important to start playing. He was in the away end at City, Liverpool too, he's such a passionate guy, and he wants to support his team.

"He wants to come back fitter and a better player. Hopefully having played well for Estudiantes and having helped Seba (Veron) his club and go to the Copa America. Something we had to do."
