Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order sells 8m, new Star Wars game by 2022
by TuffcubWell who could have predicted that: Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, a single player action game without any online game modes or games-as-service gubbins, has sold a bucketload of copies.
Despite the games industry trying to force battle royale and games-as-service in to everything for the past few years it turns out gamers still enjoy a focused single player game with a good story and a definitive ending. EA has said that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order had sold “beyond our projections for the quarter,” and was now on track to shift 10 million copies by the end of March 2020.
They also revealed that they would be publishing fourteen games in the coming fiscal year. Those include FIFA, Madden, and two other sports games, one of which is probably a NHL. Two more of the games are mobile titles, and we know about Medal of Honor VR and the remastered Command and Conquer. That still leaves a few games unannounced, four of them are from smaller developers and will be published by EA so by my count that leaves two AAA games from internal studios for this year.
EA have promised new games in the Dragon Age, Battlefield, and Star Wars franchises by the end of 2022 buy they are still rather reluctant to bring their games to Nintendo Switch. The problem is not the power of the console rather that Nintendo fans are, well, Nintendo fans, and Nintendo games sell well on the console and 3rd party titles do not.
“We are always looking and discussing with Nintendo what else we can put on the platform, and as the platform grows, our interest in adding content grows for that platform,” said COO and CFO Blake Jorgensen. “But we’re also conscious of the fact that the top-selling titles by a long shot are all Nintendo software. Which is fabulous software, but it helps us balance the realities of how big our markets could be there.”
