Malaysia Is Donating 18 Million Medical Gloves To China Amidst The Wuhan Virus Epidemic

2.3 million gloves have already been dispatched to Wuhan.

Earlier today, the government announced that Malaysia will be donating 18 million pieces of medical gloves to China in wake of the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) epidemic

The announcement was made by Primary Industries Minister Teresa Kok at a press conference, 31 January.

"We are calling out for much needed protective medical supplies, such as masks and gloves, as supplies run low," Kok was quoted as saying by Malay Mail.

Currently, 2.3 million gloves have already been dispatched to Wuhan

"Two companies, Top Glove and Supermax, have already donated 2.3 million pieces of gloves through their local offices and distributors to Wuhan," Kok said, as quoted by The Star.

Meanwhile, the rest of the gloves will be gradually shipped in batches.

The other companies that have pledged to donate include the Malaysian Rubber Export Promotion Council (MREPC), Smart Glove, Hartalega, Kossan, YTY, Brightway, and Koon Seng.

China's Ambassador to Malaysia, Bai Tian, who was present at the press conference with Kok thanked Malaysia for its help

Bai Tian expressed his appreciation for the Malaysian glove manufacturers, saying that the donation pledge symbolises the friendship between Malaysia and China.

"However, there is a tough battle that still awaits us and we will emerge triumphant," Bai Tian added, as quote by theSundaily.

"Let us join hands to work against the coronavirus and cooperate closer with countries around the world, eventually, we will overcome difficulties," he said.
