Hull set to sign League One star as instant Bowen replacement

Hull City are set to sign Peterborough United’s Marcus Maddison as they instantly look to replace their talisman Jarrod Bowen.

Bowen, who has scored more goals (16) and registered more assists (seven) than anyone else in the Hull team, has been linked with a move away throughout the January transfer window.

With the 23-year-old set to seal the deal on a £22m move to West Ham United, Grant McCann’s Tigers have sprung straight into action to make sure their squad isn’t lacking for the remainder of the season.

The Hull Daily Mail report that Maddison is set to arrive at City’s Cottingham training ground to undergo a medical, originally on a loan arrangement until the end of the season, with a view to a permanent transfer as a free agent this summer.

Maddison has also been a frequent fixture of the gossip columns over the winter window and was reportedly close to joining Birmingham City and Charlton after Peterborough accepted earlier bids for him.

The 26-year-old midfielder came up through the ranks at Newcastle United, but never made a senior appearance for the Premier League club, moving to St Johnstone and subsequently Gateshead in 2013.

But it’s after his move to Peterborough in 2014 where he really began to forge his reputation. He scored 62 goals from 240 appearances for Posh, many of which eye-catching long-range efforts.

He’s also been a prolific provider of goals, registering 92 assists during his time with the club.

Peterborough chairman Darragh MacAnthony, typically forthright on social media, gave an update earlier in the month.

“As of this morning, Peterborough has accepted a bid from Charlton Athletic, who have permission to talk terms with the player,” he posted on Twitter.

“Two other championship clubs have bid for the player multiple times & do not currently have permission to speak to the player.”
