The annual Scottish Snowdrop Festival has returned

A number of Perthshire gardens have opened their gates for the annual Scottish Snowdrop Festival.

Running until Wednesday, March 11, residents and visitors will be able to explore gardens across the country to take in the blooming spring flowers.

Riverside Park in Perth, Cluny House Gardens near Aberfeldy, Branklyn Gardens in Perth, Princeland House in Coupar Angus and Scone Palace will all be hosting walks, talks and activities throughout the festival to show off their snowdrop displays.

Snowdrops first appeared in Scotland in the 18th century. Although the plant is not native to Britain, its hardiness and adaptability allows it to thrive in the Scottish climate.

Catherine Erskine, chair of Discover Scottish Gardens and founder of the Snowdrop Festival in Scotland, said: “Snowdrops foretell the changing of the seasons and, for many of us, they are a welcome indicator that spring is just around the corner.

“We are very lucky in Scotland to have such a fantastic climate for snowdrops, with many species flourishing here and creating magnificent displays across Perthshire.

“Many of the festival venues are in the grounds of some of Scotland’s most historic buildings and estates, creating a spectacular sight.

“We hope the festival will encourage people to go outdoors and discover this beautiful flower alongside the region’s stunning gardens.”

Branklyn Gardens will take part from Saturday, February 15 until Sunday, March 16, and Cluny House Gardens from Wednesday, February 12 until Wednesday, March 11.

Princeland House will be open from Saturday, February 15 until Sunday, March 1, and Scone Palace from Sunday, February 23 until Sunday, March 8.

Riverside Park in Perth, which started taking part in the festival last weekend, will continue until Wednesday, March 11.
